PLAYING for your country is a dream for any sportsman or woman – and one Warrington youngster has taken a step towards doing just that.
Having turned out both for Woolston Rovers and the Warrington Wolves academy, Imogen Roberts has now been selected for Wales’ women’s squad having come through extensive trials.
Now, the former Cardinal Newman High School pupil is getting closer to pulling on the red jersey.
“I am absolutely over the moon to have signed for Wales – a team that I have dreamed of playing for since I was little,” said Imogen, who attends Warrington and Vale Royal College.
“As both a player and a fan of rugby from a young age, it really is an honour to represent this world-class team.
“I cannot thank my tutors and the college enough for their unwavering support of my career journey.
“They have been completely flexible around my professional commitments, helped to develop my broad knowledge of the discipline of sport, and seem to be just as proud of me as people that I have known for years.”
Roberts has turned out for The Wire’s academy side from under 16s through to under 19s and also coaches a junior team at Rylands Sharks.
