Warrington Town granted extension to ground work deadline

The Warrington Guardian understands the Football Association have granted the club an extension to their previous deadline of this coming Friday, March 29.

They now have until Tuesday, April 30, which is an absolute final deadline, to complete the work at Cantilever Park and pass a ground-grading inspection.

Yellows applied for an extension after work was held up by factors beyond their control, namely inclement weather, a nationwide shortage of materials required to complete some of the tasks and delays in receiving grant funding for the work.

The majority of the work has been finished but outstanding tasks that remain include the building of an uncovered terrace next to the new seated stand at the Wash Lane end of the ground and the addition of extra turnstiles.

It is understood there is a high degree of confidence that the work will be completed before the new deadline.

A preliminary ground-grading inspection was conducted earlier this week in the knowledge that an extension had been granted and the club are said to be encouraged and satisfied by the outcome.

As well as the new seated stand, which has been in use for the club’s last four home matches, new toilet facilities and refreshment kiosks have been added and areas around the ground have been concreted with handrails attached in order to comply with league regulations and increase the ground’s capacity to the minimum required figure of 3,000.

The completion of the work is the final barrier to Yellows staying in the National League North for at least another season.

On the field, the team are all but safe from relegation – they sit 12th in the table with five games of the season remaining having accrued 61 points from their 41 league games, with the latest being a 3-1 win at Peterborough Sports last night.
