JAKE Anders has been crowned a national champion in his first year of outdoor karting.

The 13-year-old from Burtonwood sealed his title when completing the Global Karting League national finals at Whilton Mill Race Track in Northampton on 191 points.

It is an electric go-kart championship, the first of its kind, and has just been rebranded from Total Karting Zero which saw Hollywood movie star Idris Elba making an appearance at Whilton Mill.

The championship is run by former F1 race engineer Rob Smedley.

Jake was one of the top five drivers in the northern section of the series and he joined his four rivals plus the top five from the southern competition in the national stage, where he won the junior light championship.

He started karting indoors around two years ago.
