SAM Burgess has moved to pour cold water on rumours of an imminent return to South Sydney Rabbitohs.

He insists his commitment to leading Warrington Wolves for at least the duration of his two-year contract remains absolute regardless of what is happening at the club where he spent the majority of his playing career.

Burgess is a legend at Souths having played a key role in their Premiership-winning side of 2014 as part of a 195-game NRL career for the club across two spells.

Upon his retirement, he joined the coaching staff at the club before leaving last year in order to return to England and take his first top-flight head coaching role with The Wire.

Back in Australia, though, an 0-3 start to 2024 has cranked up the pressure on Rabbitohs head coach Jason Demetriou, under whom Burgess worked as an assistant coach last year, and rumours have started to fly about a return to Redfern for the Wire boss.

However, Wire chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick told Australian newspaper the Daily Telegraph earlier this week that any approach for Burgess would not be entertained and now, the head coach has echoed those sentiments.

“I’m really happy with what we’re doing at Warrington as a team on the field and as a club in the the community.” He said.

“I have a two-year contract at Warrington and that will not change. My family and I are really enjoying our time here.”
