WOLVES boss Tony Smith has given an update on the fitness of a number of players ahead of Saturday’s trip to Catalans Dragons.

The Wire are set to be without both their regular half-backs after Chris Sandow joined Kurt Gidley on the injury list.

Sandow completed 80 minutes of last Saturday’s Challenge Cup Final defeat to Hull FC but picked up a knee injury in the process.

He joins Gidley, who is having scans on the eye socket he injured at Wembley, in missing the trip to France.

“Chrissy Sandow has a medial strain in his knee, he’ll miss this week and will go for a scan in the next 24 hours,” head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith confirmed.

“At the moment, Gids has a lacerated eye and he’s having a CT scan to have a look whether there’s any crack in the cheekbone.

“We’re optimistic about that one but he’s definitely unavailable for this week just based on the laceration.”

Smith also said forward Ben Westwood’s season was all but over as a result of the injury he picked up at Wembley.

“Bennie’s torn his pectoral muscle, he’ll go to see the consultant but almost certainly needs some sort of operational repair,” he said.

“We’re pretty confident that will rule him out for the rest of the season, which is a blow for Bennie. He had a great cup final, he was terrific off the bench.

“It’s a really blow for us as a team and we’ll miss him but he’ll be back stronger for next year.”
