A FREE school that will allow children to choose what they learn has been given the green light to open in the town.

The Montessori School for primary school children is set to open in September 2013 after an application was accepted by the Dfe on Friday.

Claire Donlan is heading the project.

She said: “We are really pleased and so are our supporters.

“We have had lots of messages from parents that have signed up.”

A location has yet to be confirmed but a site has been earmarked in south Warrington next to junction 10 of the M56.

It is a renovated hall currently not in use. A change of use application will be made to Warrington Borough Council before the location can be confirmed.

In the first year 20 children will be admitted with an eventual capacity of 140.

Mrs Donlan said that places for the opening term are already oversubscribed.

The search for staff is also about to begin. Adverts will be placed on the website.
