MORE than £2.6 million is set to be cut from primary schools in Warrington, new data shows.

The data has been calculated taking into account inflation, as well as rising costs and decreasing funding.

Nearly every school across Warrington is facing drastic cuts, with the National Association of Headteachers (NAHT) claiming 95 per cent of schools will be forced to make cuts.

Around 50 per cent of schools are considering laying off teaching staff, and two-thirds of schools are looking into cutting the number of teaching assistants in school.

The spending per pupil in Warrington is set to fall drastically, with one primary school looking set to lose more than £300 per pupil in the next academic year.

Only three primary schools in Warrington are set to have more funding next year - The Cobbs Infant and Nursery School, Birchwood Church of England Primary, and St Vincent's Catholic Primary.

The Cobbs is set to increase spending per pupil by an average of £30, Birchwood CE by an average of £41, and St Vincent's by an average of £176.

Bewsey Lodge Primary School is set to be hardest hit by cuts, the data suggests, with spending per pupil being cut by £323, with the school hit by an overall funding cut of £102,081.

The primary school with the largest overall cut seems to be Barrow Hall Community Primary School, which is facing a predicted cut of £117,744 between 2022/23 and 2023/24.

The Warrington Guardian has created the database below for Warrington's primary schools, which has a built-in search tool to help you find the relevant school.

Headteachers are warning that one aspect that may face the largest cuts in school budgets may be the SEND (special educational needs or disability) provision that provides support for pupils with additional needs.

One SEND coordinator in Warrington is worried about what future cuts may mean for the SEND provision in her school.

She said: "We aim to keep children in the classroom with their peers as much as possible but at times we do need to provide out-of-class support.

"Without the funding to provide extra members of staff, this specific intervention (speech and language therapy, motor skills interventions, social communication groups) is just not possible.

"I worry that as time goes on, there will be even more needs to meet with even fewer resources and this does scare me."
