ALMOST 200 residents attended a service for Warrington Street Pastors (WSP) at Holy Trinity Church last Friday.
WSP chairman John Britton opened the proceedings ahead of a prayer from the Rev Shirley Cowan.
Shortly after, WSP co-ordinator Peter McDade delivered a video presentation.
He said groups of teams of four trained volunteers would initially patrol the streets on Friday nights between 10pm and 4am – and later in the year on a Saturday night.
Mr McDade explained it was not part of WSP philosophy to 'preach or proselytise' but to 'show the love of God in a Good Samaritan sort of way'.
Archdeacon Roger Preece also addressed those in attendance at the multi-group commissioning service.
