THE daughters of an American soldier who was stationed in Burtonwood during the late 1950s are in a desperate hunt to find their long-lost half-sister.

Lisa Navarrete, 54, and sister Monica Speers, 56, have known for many decades of their older sibling’s existence after their father Anselmo Guillermo Navarrete – known to many as Willie – made the unexpected revelation.

It is only after their father’s death in 2007 following a battle with cancer and with the support of their mother Virginia that they have decided to try to track down their sister.

Monica said: “When I was 17 years old, our father told me on my sister’s 16th birthday that we have a half-sister in England.

“She was born in 1959 - a year before me.

“I remember him telling me this news yet didn’t ask any questions and left it at that.

“I don’t know if it was because my young age, shock, or denial.

“This became the unspoken moment that I never even asked my sister if she was aware of our half-sister.”

Monica and Lisa, who both live in California, believe Anselmo, who served in the United States Air Force, was stationed at Burtonwood airbase from around September 1956 to June 1959.

Between April to May 1959, Anselmo welcomed a daughter with an unknown woman and it is understood he saw the little girl on the day he returned to the United States.

It is believed his daughter could be living in the Cheshire or Merseyside area.
Anselmo went on to marry Virginia– the mother of Lisa and Monica - on September 26, 1959, and the couple were together for 48 years.

Mum-of-four Lisa said: “My children are very supportive of finding my half-sister and they are excited as well.

“They have known about her since they were old enough to understand the story told by me.

“Now that I am older and have an understanding of what happened when my dad was in England, when I think about my half-sister, I’m excited and nervous.
“Then there are times when I wonder if my sister and I are doing the right thing - do we have a right to disrupt our half-sister’s life by trying to enter into it?

“I’m also afraid that she may not want to meet us.

“She may not even know about us.”
