POLICE alerted to a sudden death on Friday are not treating the incident as suspicious.
Officers were called to the Kings Head pub on Winwick Street near to the town centre at 11.50pm following concerns for a man who had fallen down the stairs.
Paramedics also attended the scene.
A 68-year-old from Cornwall was taken to hospital where he later died.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "Police were notified by ambulance that a man had fallen down the stairs.
"Police attended to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and following enquiries confirmed no third party was involved."
The man's family have been informed.
