RESIDENTS will soon be receiving their annual household enquiry form asking them to check whether the information that appears on the electoral register is correct.

Each year the council sends out the forms to every address across the borough as part of a national canvass.

Council chief executive Steven Broomhead said: "The aim of the household enquiry is to ensure that the electoral register is up to date and to identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.

"It's particularly important that anyone who has moved house recently looks out for the form and checks whether they are registered with the correct information."

Council chiefs are reminding the public that not being registered to vote can impact on applications for credit cards, mobile phone contracts and mortgages as credit reference agencies use the register to validate applications.
