TWO people with more to offer to the community than most have been nominated in one of our categories.

Nigel Garner, from Appleton, and Andi Harper, from Sankey Bridges have been shortlisted in our contribution to the community award.

A man who has helped countless youngsters by offering apprentices, Nigel has also set up The Moore Foundation to help dozens of charities since it was set up 10 years ago.

Andi Harper, a retired London Transport Manager is volunteer mentor for the Mentor Me project that supports NEET ( not in education, employment or training ) young people in returning to education, employment or training.

The award is sponsored by Warrington Borough Council.

Clr Terry O'Neill, leader of the council, and Clr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: "We are delighted to be sponsoring an inspiration award and honoured to be part of this special celebration which recognises the valuable achievements of our residents.

“We are always heartened by the knowledge that there are so many people in our town doing such great work and having a positive affect on where they live.

“Much of this work can go unnoticed and so it's important that we not only recognise their dedication to turning their ideas into reality but also encourage others to follow in their formidable footsteps.

“People making the choice to do something good for their area really is at the heart of any community and reflects people’s passion and loyalty to where they live. It’s what brings people together and contributes towards a sense of pride and belonging.

“Communities are made stronger by the actions of its residents and that is why we want to support these awards to mark these valuable achievements."
